Pro Labore Dei - Feed My Lambs
Twenty-one years ago, a nun from Nigeria was told by God to establish a mission for the needy in Robbins, Illinois. The name of that mission is Pro Labore Dei: Feed My Lambs (PLD).
Sister Stella-Maris Okwonko was in Wisconsin visiting the PLD mission she had established in Madison when she was given that message. Imagine the faces of her local volunteers when she asked how to get to Robbins, Illinois!
With unwavering faith, she did as God had asked. She found people here who were inspired by her commitment to serve the very poor and destitute in our society. Her dedication to this calling has grown into an organization that now serves the needs of our brothers and sisters in the 6 populated continents and in 8 locations in the United States.
As we carry out her work here on the south side, God is working miracles through the people of St. Damian.
Every month you generously make and deliver grocery bags. Coat drives, Christmas gifts, Easter baskets, food drives, the list goes on. Without fail, you give food and money and hours of your time to serve those who need help. This past year, you helped PLD provide more than 169,000 meals.
Last week a man in Robbins received his groceries and he was crying. He was so grateful. What a gift to be able to feed a hungry man.
Thank you all and God bless you.
