The Elizabeth Ministry is based on the scripture passage of the visitation of Mary to her kinswoman Elizabeth. Elizabeth Ministry is an outreach to women to affirm, support and encourage them in response to their needs during the childbearing years and beyond. Elizabeth Ministers encourage women who are pregnant or in the adoptive process to receive a blessing on the third Sunday of each month at the 11:00 Mass. Baptism garments in the form of bibs are embroidered, sewn and given to any parent that wishes to use it at the child’s baptism.
The Tree of Life is a gift from the Ministry to recognize all newly baptized children. A special leaf is engraved, placed on the tree and after a period of time sent to the family as a remembrance of their child’s baptism. A prayer chain is in place for anyone in need of prayers.
Cancer hats are made for women suffering hair loss from chemotherapy treatments and pillows and pillow cases for children who face serious illness.
A Remembrance Service is held periodically for anyone who has lost a child of any age. Many wakes and funerals of children who have died from illness, miscarriage or stillborn have been attended by Elizabeth Ministers who then become a comfort or resource for the families who have suffered the loss.
